Parents want INFO on Education Act.

BY MAGP Monday 14th June 2010: Ahmedabad
On the first day of the school in Gujarat, RTI helpline got several calls from parents about Compulsory Education Act. A parent, from Baroda who is an auto rickshaw driver called was the first one at 11 am as RTI helpline 09924085000 was on for the day. He said,” I approached a one private school from my city, and was told that private schools are not covered under this act. The fees asked by the school authority are around 12,000 which I will not be able to pay. I asked how many students will get free admission as per new rule, but got no answer. I am ready to file RTI at DEO to get this info, but also worried about admission of my child”
“Today 10% of the total calls were about admission into private schools” said the RTI helpline volunteer. “It is good to know that parents are aware of the Compulsory Education Act, but state government is yet to frame the rules and parents are getting vague answers from the private schools. We have guided parents to file RTI applications to know about number of children from economically marginalized sections of the society will be getting admission in private schools”.
