Complimenting Sheila Dixit for good governance

SUBHASH CHANDRA.. Sun, Jun 13, 2010 14:14:51 IST
CHIEF MINISTER of Delhi Shiela Dixit has become a role-model for other states by initiating a welcome trend to induce accountability in government-offices when staff responsible for delays in processing applications in some key-offices will be penalised for each day of delay in responding to applications received for issue of ration-cards, learner and driving licences, election-cards, cast-certificates, birth & death registrations etc. It is a first step towards ‘Right-To-Accountability’ after tremendous success of ‘Right-To-Information’ Act.
Delhi introduced RTI Act much before RTI Act was introduced at national level. Union government should implement such an accountability-system on national basis. Also to reduce ever-increasing work-load due to RTI petitions, system should for compulsory response to every communication reached at government-offices in a time-bound period of 30 days. The public-authority in the country should compulsorily have a helpline-column at their websites where every registered message may be provided registration-number on lines of such facility presently available at website of President of India.
