DGCA official violated RTI Act

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI)
In a serious violation of Right to Information Act, a junior officer with the Directorate General Civil Aviation decided to appeal against his own reply, which is the sole prerogative of a senior officer holding rank of Joint Director General.
The case relates to an RTI application wherein the applicant had sought to know point-wise details about the air-misses, drunk pilots and other such issues from the civil aviation regulator of the country.
Bir Singh Rai, a Director at DGCA has been designated as Central Assistant Public Information Officer (CAPIO), replied on April 6 giving just skeletal details of the queries.
In his reply, Rai neither cited any exemption clauses, a mandatory requirement under the law, to withhold information nor did he give any reasons for the same.
