Punjab: Only 1,913 given unemployment allowance in 4 years, says Charanjit Channi

In the past four years of the SAD-BJP rule from 2012-16 in Punjab, only 1,913 unemployed persons have been given the monthly unemployment allowance, the Congress claimed on Thursday. In Ludhiana on the third day of his ‘Jawaani Sambhaal Yatra’, the leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly Charanjit Channi presented a document procured under the Right to Information Act (RTI) which shows that only 1,913 persons were given unemployment allowance from 2012-16. Not only this, the number of beneficiaries also dwindled from 950 in 2012-13 to 210 in 2015-16. According to the RTI reply, only 25 youths in Jalandhar got allowance from 2012-16. The number stands at zero for Jalandhar in 2015-16. In Nawanshahr, not a single beneficiary was given allowance and in Ludhiana, only 36 beneficiaries got allowance in four years. The number stands at two for Ferozepur, one for Fazilka, zero for Ropar and Mohali, 20 for Mansa and two for Moga.
While 61 youths got allowance in Bathinda from where Harsimrat Kaur Badal is an MP, it is zero for Muktsar under which falls the Lambi constituency which has the CM’s village Badal. Only one beneficiary got allowance in Fazilka in 2012-13 the district having Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal’s constituency Jalalabad and the number stands at zero for Fazilka from 2013-16. The maximum beneficiaries 728 are in Amritsar who got allowance in four years, followed by Tarn Taran having 363 and Gurdaspur with 162. In Pathankot, only 58 youths got allowance in four years.
