Key accused in RTI activist Kadam’s murder case held

Times of India: Kolhapur: Saturday, 15 June 2024.
The crime branch of the Sangli police on Thursday arrested Siddharth alias Baba Sukhdeo Chiprikar, the key accused in RTI activist Santosh Kadam’s murder.
Chiprikar, a resident of Sangliwadi, was on the run since Kadam’s murder in early-Feb.
Kadam, a known RTI activist working in Sangli city, told his wife he would be late. The CCTV footage collected by the police showed that Kadam picked up the accused from Sangli and left for Kolhapur. Kadam was later found murdered in his car near Kurundwad town of Kolhapur district. The vehicle was parked along the roadside between the sugar cane fields and spotted by the locals in the next morning.
The police have already arrested three accused. It was found in the investigation that Chiprikar planned and executed the murder. Shahrukh Shaikh, Chiprikar’s accomplice, is still absconding.
Sameersinha Salve, sub-divisional police officer from Jaysingpur said, “The Sangli police arrested Chiprikar at Kagal. Special IG Sunil Phulari has ordered the investigation to be done jointly by Sangli and Kolhapur police. Our investigation has found that Chiprikar was good friend of the deceased RTI activist. The court has granted us the custody of Chiprikar for six days.”
Salve said, “Even though the other arrested accused are not revealing information, the motive behind the murder will be known.”
His family members had demanded an investigation on former corporator of Sangli-Miraj Municipal Corporation’s involvement in the murder. However, the corporator was let off due to lack of evidence.
