Large plots of govt land grabbed in summer capital Gairsain: RTI

Times of India: Dehradun: Sunday, 23 June 2024.
Gairsain is grappling with a widespread problem of unlawful encroachment on govt property which was brought to light through an investigative report carried out by a joint team of officials from the revenue department and the municipality. The team was formed following the State Information Commission’s (SIC) directives to provide information on encroachment in response to an appeal filed by Radhakrishna Kala, a resident of Gairsain, who requested information on encroachment. However, due to time limitations, the joint team’s report only covered a small portion of Gairsain.
After confirming the presence of encroachment in the investigative report, the commission emphasised the urgency of the issue, highlighting it as a major challenge for the future. Yogesh Bhatt, the State Information Commissioner, instructed the sub-divisional magistrate of Gairsain to prepare a detailed report. The commissioner also directed that the report be brought to the notice of the chief secretary, secretary of revenue, secretary of urban development and district magistrate of Chamoli. Pankul Sharma.
