Nagaland Post: Guwahati: Friday, 01 March 2024.
In a move toward
transparency and efficiency, the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench took a
significant step by launching its online Right to Information (RTI) portal on
February 29.
A press release from GHC Kohima Bench registrar, Ajongba Imchen informed that it was the first of its kind in Nagaland, the online RTI portal was formally inaugurated by Justice Devashis Baruah, a judge at the Gauhati High Court, and the ICT in-charge of the Kohima Bench, in the presence of Justice Susmita Phukan Khaund, a judge at the Gauhati High Court, and officials of the High Court registry.
To mark the occasion, Justice Devashis Baruah symbolically filed the first online, paperless e-RTI application at the Kohima Bench through the dedicated web portal. It is important to note that Section 6 (1) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, stipulates that an information seeker has a statutory right to move an application through electronic means. Until now, RTI applications could only be filed physically. The online RTI portal has been launched to make it easier for people to access information about the Gauhati High Court and its outlying benches.
Through the web portal, Indian citizens can now file their RTI application and first appeal online, and make payments for fees, copying charges, etc., through the online payment gateway. Fee payments can be made online via Internet Banking or UPI. To access the online RTI portal, citizens can simply click on the dedicated “RTI” tab available on the official website of the Gauhati High Court Kohima Bench. The web portal has a user-friendly interface and operates on an end-to-end paperless mode. The online RTI facility will be expanded to all District Courts of Nagaland in the near future.
