Charge-sheets were filed in eight cases, Excise Assistant Commissioner J Harikishan said while replying to a petition filed under RTI Act by the Forum for Good Governance Secretary M Padmanabha Reddy.
The Prohibition and Excise department, which probed the sensational drugs case allegedly with links to several personalities from Telugu film industry, has filed charge-sheets in eight cases.
In all, the department had booked 12 cases under the NDPS Act. Charge-sheets were filed in eight cases, Excise Assistant Commissioner J Harikishan said while replying to a petition filed under RTI Act by the Forum for Good Governance Secretary M Padmanabha Reddy.
Out of the 12, four cases were related to personalities in Telugu film industry. The department had earlier issued notices to 11 film personalities and the driver of a film actor and summoned them to its office for questioning. All of them had attended the questioning. In addition to these 11 persons, Excise officials also examined 62 persons in connection with the case related to LSD and MDMA drugs.
After maintaining surveillance for over a month on drug peddlers in 2017, the department had launched a crackdown against those selling drugs and nabbed them. As part of the investigation, the names of several film personalities came to light. Some drug consumers also obtained the contraband after placing an order online using Darknet. A couple of foreign nationals were also detained in connection with the case at that time.
