Finance and Mass Media Minister Mangala
Samaraweera yesterday insisted that the environment has been made in the
country for a clean and transparent administration through the implementation
of the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Addressing the symposium on RTI, the
Minister pointed out that not only politicians, but all bureaucrats have an
understanding of the transparency of the decisions they make.
Through the implementation of the RTI
Act, he said it has enabled the mass media to validate their facts and findings
under the Act before announcing it to the public.
However, Samaraweera said it was
regrettable that many journalists are proliferating false information despite
the existence of the RTI Act.
