Students of the engineering and commerce departments of Punjabi University will undergo a two-week summer internship programme (SIP) at the University of Wisconsin, Parkside (UWP), in the USA in July this year.
Vice-Chancellor BS Ghuman said this was the first batch of Punjabi University students who were getting this opportunity. Professor Ghuman handed over admission letters to the students for their admission to SIP in ‘Business and Industry in America: Strategies for Success’ at the UWP. He said the students would be awarded certificates on successful completion of the programme.
It will also open new employment opportunities for Punjabi University students in the near future. It was just a beginning for them to participate in SIPs at prestigious universities around the globe with substantial number of students expected to get admission to Canadian universities soon”, he said.
Seminar on RTI Act
A seminar on Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, was held by the State Institute of Public Administration, Punjab, at Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan in Punjabi University on Tuesday. Gurcharan Singh Tohra, Punjabi University RTI officer, presided over the seminar. Director, Information, Punjab, Jarnail Singh, was the chief guest. Officials said the RTI was the birthright of people. Jarnail said the State Information Department would hold two workshops and a seminar jointly with the department of Sri Guru Granth Sahib studies at the university. University’s department head Sarbjinder Singh said: “Transparency is the most important module under the Act. People were not able to take advantage of the Act due to fear.”
