A study has found that Nagaland Information Commission received the highest number of Right to Information (RTI) applications (24,896) in the period from 2006-07 to 2016-17 among the small states.
Secretary, National Informatics Centre, Nagaland, Worhonthung Ezung, in a letter on Thursday said the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI), in its rapid review published on March 12, had said the Nagaland Information Commission was the lone example of perfect statutory compliance in the country with all the annual reports on its website.
However, the state reported a decline in the number of RTI applications from 4,526 in 2015-16 to 4,344 in 2016-17. The other states which reported a decline in the number of RTI applications are Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Sikkim and Tripura.
The CHRI has been studying the working of all information commissions and the use of RTI Act by citizens since 2013. The study is based on annual reports of all state information commissions available in public domain.
The study also found that Nagaland is among the nine states along with the Central Information Commission, which had displayed updated cases pending data on their websites, the letter said.
Nagaland also reported to have the highest number of translations of the RTI Act in local dialects and its information commission displayed the RTI user guide/citizens' guide in rich text format (RTF) in all those languages on its website.
