Jayasuriya had signed the Right to Information Bill yesterday (1st Aug.), which
was passed unanimously in the House on 24th June with amendments.
The Speaker,
who was abroad for treatment was unable to sign the Bill due to his absence in
the house.
When the
Minister of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media Gayantha Karunathilake was
asked about the enforcement of the Act, he replied that necessary actions will be taken to enforce
the Act within six months as mentioned in the Act.
Minister
Karunathilake addressing the weekly Cabinet Briefing today (2nd July) at the
Department of Government Information in reply to a question from the
journalists on the effect made by Pada Yathra protest march against the United
National Party added that no elephant will feel the proboscis of a mosquito.
“We can see a huge crowd than this meeting even at the university students’
protests”, he added.
Minister of
Disaster Management Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said the SLFP worked patiently
regarding such issues but, they had never seen such a behavior made by
supporters in front of the Party Headquarters during the protest march.”
