'Offer to CJ' case: Bengaluru Lokayukta court dismisses plaint by RTI activists

Times of India‎‎: Bengaluru: Sunday, August 07, 2016.
A city Lokayukta special court on Saturday rejected a private plaint lodged by two city based RTI activists wherein they had sought for a direction to either the ACB or the High Grounds Police to conduct an investigation against an unidentified person who allegedly made an offer to the chief justice of Karnataka high court for doing a favour in relation to a petition listed on July 5.
Special judge rejected the complaint filed by S Bhaskaran and Jayakumar Hiremath stating that the court cannot act merely on media reports and that the complainants have failed to substantiate their claim.
The complainants had moved the special court complaining that the local police refused to register the case. This was based on a media report that on July 5, the chief justice had disclosed in the open court that a person had approached him with an offer to expedite the case listed at serial number 34, a review petition filed by Umrah Developers. The chief justice also recused from the said case.
