O Herald: Goa: Sunday, June 5, 2016.
Villagers of Kumarwado in Merces have objected to a housing project coming up in their village citing lack of access to the plot.
Complaints have been made by the villagers to the local Panchayat, Town & Country Planning Department, Health Department and Revenue Department.
Jose Joao, a local resident said, “the main water pipeline of Opa to Panjim is passing between the complex and the main road.”
The villagers have raised apprehension that the access road would damage the main pipeline.
A joint inspection by the departments concerned and the panchayat was conducted on June 2 where locals demanded that the project approval should be kept on hold till the builder clarifies the issues raised by the villagers.
The villagers have informed that there is no NOC granted by PWD to the project as under the RTI Act, information sourced by the villagers does not mention any permission from PWD.
Alex Fernandes, another resident, who is the main complainant, said that besides the access, part of the plot is on the hillside which will involve hill cutting to develop the area. He demanded that permission be revoked and warned of an agitation and moving the courts, if his demands were not met.
