This could be
the main reason behind the work stress and the failure to curb crimes in the
state. According to the director general of police's office there are total
12,115 post ranging from constables to additional commissioner of police post lying
vacant as the state government has not filled them for last two years.
This vital
information came to light to activist Anil Galgali who sought information under
the Right to Information (RTI) act last week. What is more shocking is the fact
that out of 12,115 vacant post, around 2,708 post of are police sub inspector
which is the backbone of every police police station. And sources said that in
Mumbai alone there are around 2,000 post of lying vacant as there are several
police stations with a shortage of around 40 to 60 men.

Anil Galgali sought information by filing RTI to DGP of Maharashtra State
Police Force headquarters and had sought information about the Total number of
employees with there Sanction post and Vacant Post. Public Information Officer
P.K.Ghuge informed Anil Galgali that there are total 2,19,986 post in
Maharashtra Police Department out of which 2,07,871 posts are filled.
At present
the police department is working with the 6951 Police Sub Inspector where as
actually required number is 9659, 2708 posts of Police Sub Inspectors are lying
vacant. Besides the sub inspector's post, there are three vacant post of
additional director general of police out of 25, where as 8 out of 47 of
Special Inspector General of Police, five of them are of deputy Inspector
General out of 36, two of them are of Deputy Inspector General of Police
(technical) out of 2, 30 are of Superintendent of Police / Deputy Commissioner
of Police posts out of 265.
The Deputy
Superintendent of Police / Assistant Commissioner of Police (unarmed) 209 out
of 686, 50 out of 87 for Armed Police Deputy Superintendent, Police Sub
Inspector 2708 of 9659 , 471 out of 4447 Assistant Police Inspector, Assistant
Sub-Inspector of police 1030 out of 18804, Police Constable 2323 out of 42964,
Constable 4101 out of 96240, the above posts are lying vacant.
Police
sub-inspector of motor transport of marine Second Class and First Class Master
Engine Driver is running only 11 out of 270 posts. Police sub-inspector of
motor transport of 54 out of 109 posts are vacant. ```This backlog has been
going on years as we as citizens have to suffer, these could be one of the
reason why the police failed to curb and detection of murders like activist
Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare and others.'' said Galgali.
Anil Galgali
wrote a letter to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to fill vacant posts
Immediately to relive thre Police force from stress. In fact many a time they
are working in an inhuman condition with the amount of pressure and stress they
go through, said Galgali. Lastly when Galgali sought information regarding the
recruitment caste vide, viz total number of Hindu, Shikh, Christian and Muslim
Officers in Maharashtra Police, Public Information Officer P.K.Ghuge informed
Galgali that the recruitment of staff not categories in there Religion.
