A delegation
of 20 prominent citizens of Goa, including members of Goa RTI Forum, urged
governor Bharat Vir Wanchoo on Tuesday to appoint all three information
commissioners selected by the three-member high-powered committee last week and
strengthen the commission to widen its scope of functioning.
The
delegation included eminent writer Damodar Mauzo, Goa RTI Forum president

Information Act provides the selection of one chief information commissioner
(CIC) and up to 10 state information commissioners (SICs) and also appreciated
the decision of the high powered committee, for the first time in Goa's
history, to select one CIC and two SICs.
The committee
consisting of chief minister, opposition leader and deputy chief minister has
selected three persons of eminence in public life. Leena Mehendale was selected
as CIC and Stanley Coutinho and Sandesh Prabhudesai as two SICs.
