SF colleges flouting quota norms

Deccan Chronicle: Kochi:Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
Information emerging as answers to a set of RTI queries has it that many affiliated colleges of MG University, including self-financing institutions, are flouting reservation norms in student admissions.
A report submitted by Dr Sreeranganadhan, director, School of Management and Business Studies, and Valsamma Karunakaran, joint registrar, to the VC had revealed this. The report submitted on February 5 2010 was released to an RTI applicant in August, 2012.
The team visited St Dominic College, Kanjirappally, Marian College, Kuttikkanam, and the DC School of Management, Pullikkanam in 2009. St Dominic College was found not keeping proper reservation norms, especially in PG programmes. In Marian College, three BCA and BBA quota seats each were filled with forward community students. In MCA (un-aided), six quota seats were filled with forward community students.
In DC School of Management, not even an SC/ST student was admitted to the 120 seats and it did not maintain an admission register either. It was found insisting SC/ST students pay the fees.
The committee inspected Rajagiri College of Social Sciences, Kalamassery, SCMS, Kalamassery, Bharathmatha College, Kalamassery and SNGIST, North Paravur on January 8, 2010. All except the Bharathmatha College were found violating quota norms. SNGIST admitted only four SC/ST students in place of the required six students and demanded a fee of `1,20,000 from them. SCMS, which failed to maintain proper admission records, did not enroll even a single SC/ST student in 2008 and 2009. Interestingly, Rajagiri authorities refused to show academic records to the committee.
Dr Sreeranganadhan told DC on Sunday that the MG University has not cared to even warn the colleges in the aftermath of the report.
Nor had it taken any steps to reverse the situation.
