3 depts account for 80% of total RTI applications: Meghdoot Sharon

Three departments of Gujarat govt home, urban development and revenue accounted for the bulk of applications received under the Right to Information (RTI) Act in 2022-23, according to a report tabled in the recently concluded session of the state assembly.
Together, these three departments accounted for 79.36% of the applications received during the year. In absolute terms, state govt departments received 1,21,490 applications in 2022-23. Of these, home, urban development and revenue departments received 96,412 applications, said a Gujarat Information Commission (GIC) report.
While the home department received 38,589 RTI applications, the urban development department received 33,841 applications and the revenue department, 23,982 applications. All the other departments together received 25,078 applications.
Meanwhile, the number of appeals and complaints received by the GIC rose by 488 in 2022-23 from the previous year.
In all, 8,257 complaints and appeals were received by the commission in 2022-23 from 7,769 in 2021-22. The commission disposed of 6,853 cases, which included 5,902 appeals and 951 complaints, the report said.
