Amjed Ullah
Khan, the leader of the Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT), has filed a petition
seeking details regarding the expenses being incurred on account of Chief
Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s visits to various states as part of his effort
to set up a “Federal Front”.
Mr Khan has
sought the information under provisions of the Right to Information Act of
2005. He has sought to know whether the expenses are being borne by the
government, or whether the trips are being funded privately, and if they are
being sponsored, by whom. He has asked for these details to be furnished for
each of the CM’s trips.
On
Sunday, Mr Rao visited Chennai to meet with M. Karunanidhi, the president of
the DMK, to discuss his intention to set up a political front at the national
level without the BJP or the Congress.
The
Chief Minister has previously flown to Kolkata to meet with Mamata Banerjee,
the chief of the Trinamool Congress, and Bengaluru to meet with JD(S) chief
H.D. Deve Gowda.
“As
a citizen of the state, I am entitled to know if government funds are being
used for personal political purposes,” Mr Khan said.
