PARENTS USE RTI TO SEEK AUDITED EXPENDITURE OF PAST FOUR YEARS OF 22 SCHOOLS FROM DPEO OFFICIALS

Ahmedabad Mirror: Ahmedabad: Thursday, March 22, 2018.
After conducting a meeting with more than 10 Parents’ Associations on March 18, 22 parents on Tuesday filed applications with District Primary Education Office (DPEO) seeking information from different schools. The parents have sought information under Right to Information (RTI) Act about audited accounts of schools that have approached the Supreme Court.
Himanshu Rohela, a parent whose daughter studies in Class 1 at RP Vasani International School said, “The fee issue is being unnecessarily extended. Every year schools submit their expenditure to the DEO, so they already have the details. But they are still seeking details from schools. FRC can easily work out the fees but unnecessarily delaying the implementation.”
A total of 22 RTIs were filed on Tuesday seeking audited expenditure of past four years of various schools. Vali Swaraj Manch has initiated the entire move. Dharmesh Patel, a parent of Tripada School and convenor of the manch said, “There are over 100 schools in Ahmedabad that collect exorbitant fees from parents. Of these, we have sought information under RTI from 22 schools.
The district education offices already have detailed expenditure of each school but they are being ignorant. Had they gone through it thoroughly each year, this situation would not have arisen and the fees wouldn’t have gone up so high.” “The parents are seeking audited expenses, so that when the schools submit their fee structure to FRC we get a clarity on what is the basis for them seeking a hike or such high fees,” Patel added.
