The Punjab
State Information Commission (SIC) on Friday barred a Ropar resident, Jaspreet
Singh, from seeking information under the RTI Act from the Education
Department. Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) SS Channy said the appellant
was earlier working as a lecturer at Government Girls’ Senior Secondary School,
Ropar, where Manjit Kaur was the Principal and that the latter nursed a grouse
against her.
Kaur is a
cancer patient and Jaspreet had used the Act for submitting umpteen RTI
applications, seeking mostly vague and unspecific information. He had sought
copies of timetables, attendance registers and letters issued by the
department. “The appellant’s act of seeking inane and voluminous information, is
counter-productive. Hence, the appellant is debarred from seeking information,”
the CIC observed.
