Volunteers
from Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) and other citizens over 500 who had applied
to become members of ward committees in their wards, but have not been
selected, have decided to protest by filing mass RTI applications with the
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike on Friday evening.
Srinivas
Alavilli of CfB said the RTI queries will seek to know whether their
applications were reviewed and if rejected why, along with the selection
criteria followed to nominate members to the ward committees.
“We are
shocked to see no transparent procedure in selection of nominees to the ward
committees. None of the 500 applications have been considered, but instead, the
ward committees are filled with councillors’ cronies,” he rued.
