Arrested
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of the Criminal Investigation Department
(CID) Dr N Rajamarthandan had provided secret information about the ongoing
investigation into the Silapathar incident even before the Right To Information
(RTI) application was filed. The information was revealed to Ambika Roy,
national general secretary of the Nikhil Bharat Bangali Udbastu Samannay Samity
(NIBBUS) in New Delhi.
While the RTI
application was filed on March 28, the relevant information was already provided
to Ambika Roy much before that.
Commissioner
of Police (Guwahati) Hiren Nath when contacted, said, “All we can say is that
the information was provided to Roy on March 19 itself, much before the RTI
application was filed.”
“The
development related to RTI came much later, possibly to cover up his misdeed.
It was only then he filed the RTI application,” the Police Commissioner said.
On whether
the investigators were able to unearth the motive behind the acts of the
arrested police official, Nath said that the accused is being quizzed and very
soon the real truth will emerge.
Dr
Rajamarthandan, who was remanded to two days’ police custody on Friday, was
also the one to receive the reply of the RTI application, which ideally should
have been posted to the address of the applicant.
