Haryana State
Information Commission has issued a notice to the state officials after an RTI
activist alleged that the government was hiding information about the project
on revival of mythical Saraswati river. RTI activist P P Kapoor had recently
sought a copy of the report on the basis of which the state government
sanctioned Rs 50 crore for the Saraswati project.
On April 21,
the BJP government had started digging a 3km stretch near Mugalwali village in
Yamunanagar as part of its great Saraswati hunt. It is said the river used to
flow around 5,000 years ago, but disappeared because of earthquakes. The
Haryana government however believes it is possible to revive the channel.
According to
Kapoor, the government has failed to provide an authentic report - on the basis
of which the project was initiated - to him under RTI Act.
