Just how many
beds does VS Hospital have? It was in January this year that mayor Meenakshi
Patel had announced that VS Hospital trust controls just 123 beds while another
newly formed AMC-run Medical Education Trust (MET), operating from the same
campus, owns 1,068 beds.
But on May 8,
in an RTI reply to Pankaj Bhatt, hospital's medical superintendent replied that
VS Hospital has 1,155 beds while AMC-MET owns no bed. This controversy has once
again come to haunt the AMC.
Earlier this
year, a Rs 167 crore budget was earmarked by VS Hospital superintendent for a
123-bed hospital, which would mean Rs 1.35 crore budget per bed, the highest
allocation in any public hospital in the country.
