State
Information Commissioner P. Vijayababu on Tuesday said that officials and
people should be aware of Right to Information (RTI) Act completely.
Participating in a review meeting held at sub-collector’s office here, he said
an inquiry was conducted in over 50 cases.
Of them, 19
cases were struck down, while show cause notices were issued in eight cases. A
majority of cases that come up for inquiry were related to land disputes. He
asked officials to look into the allegations relating to temple land
encroachments.
He
underscored the need to take up a campaign for creating more awareness about
the RTI Act. “It is the responsibility of officials concerned to give
information to the applicants,” he said adding that necessary action would be
taken against the authorities for trying to misuse the Act. He later addressed
a meeting at Montessori College here.
