AMC contradicts itself, challenges info under RTI

DNA: Ahmedabad: Saturday, June 01, 2013.
The solid waste management (SWM) department of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) challenged the information given under right to information (RTI) Act.
Based on this information, dna had published an article on May 23 this year, ‘ Pvt contractors dig gold from trash’, showing how garbage collecting vehicles of private contractors completed one trip to the landfill site in one minute.
“Vehicle no GJ1XX7726 carried 1,380 kg solid waste from Narmada Nigam area in west zone and reached Pirana landfill site at 3.44 hours on May 13, 2011, and not vehicle no GJ1XX7728 as mentioned in the article by dna,” said Naresh Rajput, director of SWM department.
However, dna is in possession of a copy of the reply under RTI which reaffirms the statement published in the article. The same document also shows that one more vehicle completed a trip in 33 seconds. On October 22, 2011, vehicle no GJ6XX7942 reached Pirana site at 1:16:49 hours carrying 1.510 metric tonne solid waste from Amraiwadi. It returned at 1:17:22 hours carrying 0.870 MT solid waste from the same place, revealed the document.
