Illegal land allotment: Cal HC asks HIDCO to file affidavit

Kolkata, Sep 10 (PTI) The Calcutta High Court today directed West Bengal government-owned HIDCO to submit an affidavit on a PIL alleging illegal allotment of land in the Rajarhat township under the the quota of the chairman, who is a state minister. A division bench comprising Chief Justice J N Patel and Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharjee, admitting the PIL filed by advocate Ramaprasad Sarkar, directed the Housing Infrastructure Development Company (HIDCO) to file the affidavit within three weeks. Its chairman is Gautam Deb, who is also the State Housing Minister. The petitioner alleged irregularities in the allotment of plots, citing newspaper reports. The bench directed the petitioner to file a RTI application to get more information on allotment of plots to different people by the HIDCO chairman from his quota. The bench asked Sarkar to annex the information and place it before the court after getting the RTI responses. The matter would come up for further hearing on October 1.
