CJ to hear plea on entry curbs in HC

HYDERABAD: The division bench of the AP High Court hearing the writ petition related to the right of lawyers to enter the High Court premises and steps to be taken to prevent untoward incidents there, on Monday directed the matter to be placed before the Chief Justice for further hearing.
The bench comprising Justices V Eswaraiah and Naushad Ali did not agree with the suggestions from the Bar Association that those with ID cards issued by the Bar Council should be permitted to attend the calls. Advocate general DV Sitaram Murthy informed the court of the plan of the city police with regard to the security for the High Court. At the request of the bench, the advocate general shared it with the counsel for the Bar Association. The matter will be taken up again on Monday.
Plea to check media coverage of exam fraud by lawyers dismissed
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Nissar Ahmad Kakru and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Monday dismissed as infructious a public interest writ petition seeking to injunct television channels from carrying
stories of District Judges and others caught copying in the law examination. It may be recalled that the High Court suspended judges in Warangal district who were caught cheating in the law examinations held in Warangal. Two practising lawyers, P Nagesh and Madhu Chatla, complained in their writ petition that repeated telecast of the incident was designed at bringing down the dignity of the institution. They further averred that the High Court had taken prompt action and there was no justification for the alleged exposure.
Petition on T Liberation Day dismissed
A division bench of the AP High Court comprising Chief Justice Nissar Ahmad Kakru and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Monday dismissed as infructous a public interest writ petition filed by P Chandrasekhar Reddy a practising lawyer from Medak seeking a declaration that September 17 be declared as Telangana Vimochana Dinam and consequently declared a public holiday. The bench pointed out that since September 17 was over, the question of considering the issue did not arise. To the plea across the bench that it could be so declared for the future, Kakru pointed out to the prayer and said that that was not sought in the writ petition.
CIC exempted from presence in PIL hearing
A division bench of the AP High Court comprising Chief Justice Nissar Ahmad Kakru and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Monday dispensed with the presence of the chief information commissioner in a public interest writ petition for the implementation of the RTI Act. Ganji Srinivasa Rao, a social worker, and two others moved the High Court seeking implementation of the provisions of the Act.
It is complained in the petition that the authorities were not taking necessary steps for digitalising information and making it available to the people at a low cost. Also the petitioners complained that the authorities were not imposing
penalties on erring officials under the Act. When the authorities failed to respond with a counter the court had summoned the chief information commissioner of the state. Today, a response was filed along with an application to dispense with the presence of the commissioner.
