RTI Seeks Details About Maheshwar Hydel Power Project Amidst Allegations Of Mismanagement

After much controversy, termination of the project and cancellation of contracts, now a fresh RTI has been filed seeking complete details and information about the Maheshwar Hydel Power Project.
Amidst charges of alleged financial troubles and mismanagement, the RTI seeks an examination of Infrastructure India PLC's role in the Madhya Pradesh-based power project.
The RTI inquiry also seeks clarification on Infrastructure India PLC's actions and decision-making in the Maheshwar Hydel Power Project. As the people of Madhya Pradesh await an official response from the department, the inquiry aims to uncover the intricacies surrounding this energy venture.
Seeking details of the power purchase agreement with Maheshwar and if there was any extension granted, reasons for extension, details of termination of contracts, information on original timeline, cost and the escalation of timeline and cost now, the RTI aims to get complete details on the loss to Madhya Pradesh Government and how the tax payer's money was spent.
The Madhya Pradesh government in 2020 terminated the power purchase agreement (PPA) of the 400 MW Maheshwar Hydel Power Project on river Narmada. One of the main reasons behind termination was slated to be a violation of PPA terms.
In September 2022, the Indore Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) declared the dam construction company Maheshwar Hydel Power Corporation bankrupt.
