The Hindu: Coimbatore: Thursday,
April 07, 2016.
Based on a
complaint lodged by Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan, the
Singanallur Police registered a case against eight staff of the East Zonal
office of the Corporation who served in that office from 2004 to 2006, on
Tuesday.
It was based
on the State Information Commission asking the corporation on action they had
taken to trace the file said to be missing in response to an RTI query.
The
corporation officials told the RTI petitioner that the file related to the
reserved site in the RK Mills B Colony went missing and could not be traced.
The
petitioner S.P. Thiyagarajan wanted to know the basis on which the corporation
allowed changes in the reserved sites in that area.
Fine
imposed
While hearing
this case, the State Information Commission had also slapped Rs. 25,000 as fine
on the then Assistant Commissioner, East Zone, P.N. Prabhakaran.
Singanallur
Police booked the accused - in the rank of assistants, superintendents and
junior assistants - under sections 166 (public servant disobeying law, with an
intent to cause injury to any person), 176 (omission to give notice or an
information to a public servant by the persons legally bound to give it) and
177 (furnishing false information) of the Indian Penal Code.
No arrest was
made till Wednesday evening as the police were investigating the issue.
