Cong takes RTI route to corner govt

Congress legislature party (CLP) leader Charanjit Singh Channi has taken on the ruling alliance for a large number of vacancies in the education sector in the state.
Claiming to have received details under the RTI Act, Channi said there are 13,032 primary schools in Punjab and the total number of vacancies in all the three categories (centre head, head teacher and JBT/ETT) in primary schools is 13,392.
Information gathered by RTI activist and convener of Congress RTI cell PPCC, Jasdeepak Singh, showed that 57% posts of centre heads are vacant in Punjab, 68% posts in head teachers and 20% posts in JBT/ETT. The total number of vacancies for centre heads is 792; head teachers 4,766; and JBT/ETT is 7,834 in Punjab. The maximum number of the vacant posts of centre heads is in Patiala (85), head teachers in Hoshiarpur (509), JBT/ETT in Jalandhar (794).
Channi further said there are only 13 centre heads working in Faridkot which is the least in Punjab while 68 are working in Hoshiarpur which is the highest. Similarly there are just 32 head teachers in Barnala and the maximum is 227 in Jalandhar. Minimum JBT/ETT teachers are working in Barnala (577) and maximum in Ludhiana (2,985). tnn
