RTI reveals KU failed student without checking answer-sheet

Rising Kashmir: Srinagar: Wednesday, April 17, 2013.
The University of Kashmir (KU) failed a student in Population Education without checking his answer sheet, an RTI revealed.
Tariq Ahmad Lone, a candidate pursuing B.Ed. through Directorate of Distance Education from University of Kashmir, accused the concerned authorities of ‘not checking’ his exam paper. The student came to know about having failed the exam after the results were out.“After the results, I was not allowed to apply for reevaluation. Then I applied for an RTI and got my answer-sheet back. To my surprise my paper was not even checked,” Lone said.
The exams were conducted in Sep-Oct 2012 and the results were declared on March 28, 2013.
Lone told Rising Kashmir that he was hopeful about qualifying the subject.
A copy of the answer-sheet is with Rising Kashmir. “I’m optimistic about the results if my paper is checked properly. I don’t want to bear the consequences of their mistakes,” Lone said.
Accusing the authorities of not helping him in the matter, he said: “I went to the examination block to register my complaint but there was no response from them.”
Appealing authorities to look in the matter, he said: “The indifference will affect my career as well as my future. Like me there are many candidates who are sufferers due to this academic apathy.”
KU Registrar Prof Zaffar Ahmad Reshi said, “If there is any sort of injustice with the student, I will look in the matter. KU looks at the issue concerning the reevaluation troubles faced by students.”
