Deccan Chronicle: Vijayawada: Wednesday, March 27, 2013.
On a surprising note when a passenger lost his luggage while travelling by a train from Eluru to Vijayawada on September 5, 2011, the Government railway police at Eluru registered FIR on March 23, 2013, when he filed a petition under Right to Information Act to know the status of his case.
The passenger P.S.V. Ramesh, a software professional in a complaint addressed to Railway police, Vijayawada, stated that he lost his bag containing laptop and gold ornaments total worth nearly Rs 4 lakh while travelling in Rajamundry-Vijayawada passenger train on September 5, 2011. Later the case was transferred to Eluru railway police.
In his RTI petition filed on March 9, 2013, he stated that the GRP failed to respond to register his complaint. He appealed for the status of complaint lodged in Eluru on September 10, 2011 and the reasons for non-filing of FIR.
However when the passenger filed a petition under RTI Act, the railway police filed FIR at Eluru police station on March 23, 2013 stating that the passenger lost property worth Rs 1,10,000.
Superintendent of police (Railways) Ch Syam Prasada Rao said an inquiry would be conducted into the incident and action would be taken on the erring officials.
