Times of India: New Delhi:

While North
Delhi Municipal Corporation officials say they are just giving finishing
touches to the 'almost ready' parking lot at Parade Ground, an RTI application
has revealed that the corporation had asked for a month's extension of the
deadline. The project, which started in 2010, is yet to see the light of day.
"The RTI
response reluctantly provided during and after hearing at Central Information
Commission by North Delhi Municipal Corporation confirms that construction work
of the car parking at Subhash Maidan (Parade Ground) in Delhi is still not
complete. The extension for the project has now been granted till January 31
even though a formal inauguration was done in a hurry on February 15, 2012,
evidently for political gain in civic body elections at that time,"
Subhash Aggarwal, an RTI activist, told TOI. A copy of the RTI application
filed on December 20 by Aggarwal is with TOI.
The project
was conceived in 2008 and work started in January 2010 at an estimated cost of
Rs 52.8 crore. The four-storey underground parking lot has a capacity of over
1,500 cars. North Corporation had previously set the deadline at December 31,
2012.
At present,
anyone can go and park their vehicle for free at the surface level with the
entry and exit ramps to the underground parking lot closed.
