If you thought that the chief minister being the head of the state travels more than his cabinet colleagues to redress the grievances of the people of the state, you are mistaken.
In an interesting investigation Haryana cabinet ministers and chief parliamentary secretaries have taken over the chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in claiming petrol expenses for travelling.
The information accessed under the RTI Act 2005 by activist Sanjeev Sharma reveals that cabinet ministers who had been allowed to own only one or two vehicles beat the chief minster, who has five vehicles in his convoy, in per day expenditure on per vehicle.
The per vehicle expenditure of cabinet minister Sukhbir Kataria, Paramvir Singh, Randeep Singh Surjewala, Shiv Charan Sharma, Geeta Bhukkal, Ajay Singh Yadav and chief parliamentary secretaries Rao Dan Singh, Prahlad Singh Gilakhera and Dharmbir was exceeding that of the Punjab chief minister.
With per day average of Rs 3,894 the chief minister has spent Rs 92,30,896 for traveling 11,64,814km with total five vehicles in his convey since 2005 to October 2011.
Whereas, labour and employment minister Shiv Charan Sharma, with allocated per day expenditure of Rs 4,709, had spent Rs 3,43,8014 for travelling 5,00,438km in his two official vehicles.
Interestingly, in per day expenditure on per vehicle Gilakhera has also beaten chief minister and all cabinet ministers in the state government.
Since October 2009, Gilakhera has spent Rs 22,19,579 for travelling 2,59,985km.
As Gilakhera has been allowed only one official vehicle the per day expenditure of his vehicle is allocated to Rs 3,040, which is four times more than the Hooda’s assigned expenditure.
