Kabul Embassy Refuses RTI Activist To Provide Details Of Afghan Kidnappings: The Embassy of India in Kabul has refused to provide to details to an RTI activist about the steps taken by Indian Government to secure the release of 06 Indian nationals kidnapped in Baghlan province in Afghanistan on 07 May 2018.
Lucknow based RTI activist Dr Nutan Thakur had sought the documents related with the External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj calling her Afghan counterpart Salahuddin Rabbani and getting the assurance of all possible support in securing the release of abducted Indians.
Vasudev Ravi, Second Secretary in the Embassy said the information sought is exempted under section 8(1)(a) of RTI Act dealing with sovereignty and integrity of India and relation with foreign State and section 8(1)(g) dealing with danger to human life.
In her RTI application she wrote kindly provide the copy of the files in the Embassy of India (Kabul) (including Notesheet and correspondence of the Embassy of Kabul with various other offices) related with the news article that India on 08/05/2018 (Monday) reached out to Afghanistan to secure the release of the six of its nationals abducted on Sunday in Baghlan province, when External Affairs Minister Ms Sushma Swaraj called her Afghan counterpart and sought assistance to find the men who were taken away by unidentified kidnappers, where External Affairs Minister requested all possible support in securing the release of abducted Indians and in response, Afghan Foreign Minister Sri Salahuddin Rabbani assured all help.
