The chief
state information commissioner on Tuesday granted an additional two week’s time
to the lawyer representing the secretary to the governor to file a reply on a
complaint seeking applicability of Right To information Act to the Goa
governor’s office.
The
government lawyer told the commission that the reply was almost ready and that
it required final vetting. He requested for time to file it. CSIC Prashant
Tendolkar directed the lawyer to provide the complainant with a copy of the
reply at least three days in advance and be prepared for arguments at the next
hearing.
At this
juncture, the complainant, social activist Aires Rodrigues, told the commission
that the secretary to the governor was served a notice to file a reply on June
5 and he had enough time to file the reply.
The
commission has also asked whether the case relating to applicability of RTI to
governors’ office is pending in the Supreme Court. Rodrigues replied that the
case was disposed of by the apex court and he will place the copy of the order
before the commission.
The Goa state
information commission on June 5 issued a notice to the secretary to the
governor, Goa Raj Bhavan, asking for a reply in the matter to be filed along
with supporting documents.
