‘DCs fail to stick to High Court notice’

Greater Kashmir: Srinagar: Friday, June 08, 2018.
The deputy commissioners (DCs) have failed to adhere to the High Court direction over conducting awareness workshops on Right to Information Act (RTI) in their respective districts.
The High Court had sought response from government over implementation of section 4 and section 23 of Jammu and Kashmir RTI Act 2009.
However, DCs across state have failed to submit the details of implementation of these sections to the government through General Administration Department (GAD).
Earlier, the GAD had issued two notices to all DC’s of the state asking them to submit details of awareness programmes or workshops conducted on J&K RTI Act 2009, but there was no responded to these notices until public interest litigation (PIL) was filed.
“Government is under legal obligation…for people, especially those hailing from disadvantaged communities. But such programmes are hardly undertaken in state,” said Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat, who has filed PIL in this regard. GKNN
