A 52-year-old
man, who had allegedly barged into Jayanagar General Hospital, abused and
threatened a woman Deputy Chief Medical Officer, was arrested by the Tilaknagar
police on Tuesday. The accused is Ramanand Sagar, a resident of Tilaknagar. He
was arrested based on a complaint by Ramadevi R, the Deputy Chief Medical
Officer of the hospital, on April 27.
Ramadevi had
alleged in her complaint that she was on night shift on March 20 when a patient
was brought in. When she was treating him, Sagar allegedly barged into the casualty
ward around 10.30 pm and abused her saying ‘What sort of a doctor is she?’ and
threatened her.
Police said
Sagar was allegedly harassing doctors and nurses at the hospital in collusion
with a senior officer of the hospital. Following complaints, officials of the
Karnataka State Commission for Women had visited the hospital in April and had
heard the woes of the staff. They had alleged that Sagar had the backing of a
senior officer in the hospital and with his help, he gathered information about
the staff’s attendance. He filed complaints against them with the senior
officer and demanded money from the staff. Also, he used to seek information
about the staff under RTI and demand money from them.
Sagar
allegedly assaulted a security guard who tried to stop him, and the guard left
the job after that. He had also abused the nurses. But no one had dared to file
a complaint against him, police said.After hearing the complaints of the
hospital staff, KSCW had given a petition to the police commissioner seeking
action against Sagar. A formal complaint was lodged against him. It is alleged
that he also threatened those who gave information against him to KSCW
officials.

Sagar, who
had founded Bharath Yuvajana Sene, had allegedly claimed that he was retired
police officer. He attended the Sene events in police uniform. Police have
booked him for this offence under provisions of the Karnataka Police Act.
