RTI: Org seek answers about safety of bridges

In the backdrop of the recent bridge collapse in Dimapur, an organisation by the name of Nagaland Indigenous People’s Forum has filed an application under the RTI Act in the office of the chief engineer of Nagaland Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges)asking the details of the safety precautionary measures undertaken by the department of all the bridges across the state and other related details.
A copy of the RTI application appended by two members of the governing body of the organisation ST Yapang and Odi Jamir that was released to the media on Monday.
“What initiatives and precautionary measures are currently undertaking by the Department of Roads & Bridges, Govt. of Nagaland for the safety and security of the Bridges maintaining by the Department in the entire State of Nagaland? Please furnish the reasons with relevant and supportive documents,” was the first query to the department.
The application also asked for detailed report with relevant supporting documents on the measures being taken by the department for temporary arrangement for citizens after the recent collapse of the bridge connecting Dimapur-Nuiland.
The Dzuza Steel Girder Bridge in Dimapur-Kohima Road NH- 29 is under bad condition with potholes within the bridge and entire iron rod are exposed and rusting, this is a matter of fact. What measures are being taken by the Department of Roads & Bridges Govt. of Nagaland for the safety and security of this particular Bridge ? Please furnish the reasons with relevant and supportive documents.
THe RTI also highlighted the Dzuza bridge in Road NH- 29 between Dimapur and Kohima that is under “bad condition with potholes within the bridge” with exposed iron rods that are rusting.
To this end it asked the department what measures are being taken by it for the safety and security of that particular bridge.
