Sanjukta Ray,
who had handled RTI applications at the Prime Minister's Office till 2011,
passed away today after brief illness. She was 47.
Ray, a
Director in Cabinet Secretariat, was not keeping well for the past few days.
She is survived by a son and husband.
"She
would go and argue with her seniors to ensure information is given as per law.
She is the one responsible for setting up RTI cell after PMO received
directions from the then Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat
Habibullah," activist Commodore (Retd) Lokesh Batra said.
Another
activist Subhash Agrawal said during her tenure at the PMO, Ray was known and
still remembered by officers for making the top office as one of the best
public-authorities towards transparency.
"Even if
some RTI petitioner might have sent a cheque of Rs 10 in her personal name
towards RTI-fees at PMO, she used to deposit the cheque in her personal
account, and deposited rupees ten in cash on behalf the RTI petitioner as RTI
fees by herself," he said.
