The Right to
Information Act is a boon to the poor, said L Tantiya Kumari, commissioner of
the State Information Commission.
She held a
public a hearing in Ongole on Thursday for 32 complaints pending with the
public information officers of various departments in Prakasam district.
In all, 32
complaints received by the State Information Commission, showcause notices were
served on the PIOs in 19 cases and four cases were postponed for hearing later.
The
commissioner fined the PIOs for not giving proper information in nine cases and
ordered them to provide the requisite information.
Tantiya
Kumari said that the laws are made for the protection of public and the
government departments and organisations should respect them.
She said it
is a right to know about the schemes of the government and the process of
selecting beneficiaries.
She warned
the officials to know the Right to Information Act and avoid the negligence in
providing the information requested within 30 days.
