The office of
the Chief Secretary revealed the list of 24 nominees submitted to the Union government
for the Padma awards of 2015 in a reply to an RTI application filed by human
rights activist Jomon Puthenpurackal.
The three
selected for the award included K.J. Yesudas (Padma Vibhushan) and Akkitham and
Chemenchery Kunhiraman Nair (Padmasree). For the first time, the Centre chose
three persons for the Padmasree award from outside the State’s list Parassala
B. Ponnamal, Meenakshi Amma and P.R.Sreejesh.
The State
nominees were K.J.Yesudas, Philippose Mar Chrysostom, Sugathakumary, Akkitham,
Vellayani Arjunan, P. Jayachandran, K.G. Jayan, Chemenchery Kunhiraman Nair,
K.Omanakutty Amma, Puthussery Ramachandran, K.N.Panikker, I.M.Vijayan,
T.K.Jayakumar, M.R.Rajagopal, B.Ekbal, K.Raveendranathan Nair, Fr. Davis
Chiramel, K.E.Mammen, K.Madhavan, P.Ramesan, M.K.Arjunan, M.K.Sanoo,
T.Padmanabhan and K.N.Gopalakrishna Bhatt.
