Authorities
at Yerwada Central Prison will meet on June 28 to consider an RTI plea filed by
A G Perarivalan, one of the convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
Perarivalan has sought information on the grounds on which actor Sanjay Dutt, a
convict in 1993 Mumbai blasts case, was prematurely released from prison. A
representative of Perarivalan will appear before prison authorities next
Tuesday.
Perarivalan’s
counsel A Sivakumar said the information sought might be crucial in his case.
“He filed the plea after the Centre opposed in Supreme Court the Tamil Nadu
government’s decision to release Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convicts.
Sanjay Dutt, arrested under TADA and Arms Act, was released from prison despite
facing several controversies during his term. In the Rajiv Gandhi assassination
case, Supreme Court dismissed TADA provisions in 1999 and conspiracy angles
were never proved,” he said.
