Human Rights
Initiative (HRI), Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur Nagaland), and Centre
for Research and Advocacy (CRA) jointly organised the "State Level
Training on welfare schemes and RTI Act for youth leaders, an initiative of
conflict transformation in Manipur" at Manipur Press Club here on
Thursday.
Human Rights
Activist Wahengbam Joykumar delivered lecture on 'Basic concept of Human
Rights, Entitlement and RTI, 2005'.Saying that Manipur is a conflict-ridden
state and human rights violation takes place on a large scale, Joykumar
expressed his view that it is the duty of the governments at the state and the
centre to uphold the human rights under provisions given in Indian Constitution
and the International Human rights Laws.
Implementation
of RTI Act in Manipur has been in jeopardy, as the appointment of the
Information Commissioners has been unduly delayed by the government.
Hence, the
people do not get the benefits of RTI Act, he lamented.
